Why You Need UTM Parameters for Your Tilda Website

Tilda is a great website builder — clean designs, fast pages, built-in forms, and even its own analytics. But when it comes to knowing exactly where your visitors come from, Tilda's built-in stats only go so far.

Tilda can show you total visits, sessions, and basic traffic sources. But if you're running ads on Google and Facebook at the same time, sharing links on Instagram and LinkedIn, and sending a newsletter — Tilda's stats can't tell you which specific campaign or post brought each visitor.

UTM parameters solve this. You add tracking tags to every link that points to your Tilda site. When someone clicks, both Tilda's built-in analytics and Google Analytics record exactly which source, channel, and campaign brought them.

This is especially important for Tilda users because many Tilda sites are landing pages for specific campaigns. You need to know which ad or email is driving sign-ups to that landing page — not just that "someone visited."

Where to Use UTM Links with Tilda

Any link that sends someone to your Tilda website from an external source should have UTM parameters. Here are the most common scenarios:

Google & Facebook Ads

When your ad points to a Tilda landing page, add UTM parameters to the destination URL in your ad platform. This lets you see which ad campaign drives the most form submissions on your Tilda page.

Social media posts

Every time you share your Tilda page link on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Telegram, tag it with UTMs. Without them, Tilda and GA4 just show "social" as a generic source with no detail.

Email campaigns & newsletters

If you use Mailchimp, Tilda's built-in email, or any other email tool to send traffic to your Tilda pages, UTM tags tell you exactly which email and which link within the email drove each visit.

QR codes on printed materials

Tilda landing pages are popular for events, menus, and portfolio sites. If you print a QR code that links to your Tilda page, add UTMs so you can track how many people actually scan it.

Telegram channels & groups

Tilda is popular with Telegram-based businesses and communities. When you share your Tilda link in a Telegram channel or group, UTMs are the only way to track this traffic since Telegram doesn't pass referrer data.

How to View UTM Data in Tilda

Tilda has built-in UTM tracking — you don't need to set anything up. Once someone clicks a UTM-tagged link to your Tilda page, the data shows up automatically.

Tilda's built-in analytics

Go to Site Settings → Analytics → Website Statistics. Switch to monthly view. Scroll down to the UTM parameters section. Click the + icon to expand and see source, medium, and campaign data. Click any tag to see detailed stats — sessions, leads, daily breakdown, device types, and even which pages visitors went to after landing.

Google Analytics (GA4)

If you've connected GA4 to your Tilda site (in Site Settings → Analytics), UTM data flows there automatically. Go to Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition, switch to Session source/medium, and you'll see all your UTM-tagged traffic with full detail.

Tip: We recommend connecting GA4 to your Tilda site even if you use Tilda's built-in stats. GA4 gives you deeper analysis, custom reports, conversion tracking, and the ability to build audience segments based on UTM data.

Tilda UTM Best Practices

Don't use UTMs on links between your own Tilda pages

Only add UTM parameters to links from external sources pointing TO your Tilda site. Never tag links between pages on your own Tilda site — this creates a new session in analytics and overwrites the original traffic source.

Use lowercase and underscores — always

Both Tilda's stats and GA4 are case-sensitive. "Facebook" and "facebook" show up as two different sources. Stick to lowercase. Use underscores instead of spaces: spring_sale not spring sale.

Tag Telegram links — they don't pass referrer data

Telegram strips referrer information from links. Without UTM parameters, all your Telegram traffic shows up as "direct" in analytics. Always add UTMs to links shared in Telegram channels, groups, and bots.

Works with both custom domains and .tilda.ws

UTM parameters work regardless of whether your Tilda site uses a custom domain or the default .tilda.ws address. The tracking is identical for both.

Use utm_content to track form submissions from different sources

If your Tilda landing page has a form, UTM parameters help you see which traffic source generates the most form submissions. Tilda shows events (leads, button clicks) broken down by UTM tag in the advanced stats view.

Tilda UTM FAQ

Does Tilda support UTM tracking?

Yes. Tilda has built-in UTM tracking that works automatically. When someone visits your Tilda page through a UTM-tagged link, the data appears in Site Settings → Analytics → Website Statistics → UTM parameters. No extra setup needed.

Do UTM parameters work with Tilda's .tilda.ws domain?

Yes. UTM parameters work the same whether your site uses a custom domain or the default .tilda.ws address. The tracking tags are in the URL itself, so the domain doesn't matter.

Does Tilda have its own UTM builder?

Yes, Tilda offers a free Campaign URL Builder at tilda.cc/utm. However, our generator provides additional features like QR code generation, copy-paste chips for common values, and a live preview — making it faster for day-to-day use.

Can I track Telegram traffic to my Tilda site?

Only with UTM parameters. Telegram doesn't pass referrer data, so without UTMs, all Telegram traffic appears as "direct" in your analytics. Always add UTM tags to links you share in Telegram channels, groups, and bots.

Should I connect Google Analytics to my Tilda site?

We recommend it. Tilda's built-in stats show basic UTM data, but GA4 gives you deeper analysis — conversion tracking, custom audience segments, multi-touch attribution, and custom reports. You can use both simultaneously. Connect GA4 in Site Settings → Analytics.

Can I capture UTM data on Tilda form submissions?

Yes. You can add hidden fields to your Tilda forms that automatically capture UTM values from the URL. When someone submits the form, the UTM data is saved alongside their contact information in Tilda CRM or exported to your external tools.
